Rule IQ: Improving the Knowledge of Players and Coaches
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30
Players and coaches continually hone their craft anyway they can, from conditioning and skill development to X's and O's. But one overlooked area remains mastery of the rules.
During this interactive session, former NBA player-turned TV commentator Robbie Hummel and NBA Finals referee James Williams look at the rules from both the player and referee point of view. Breaking down footage from Robbie's games, they explore common misconceptions about the rules and how referees can clarify them during the game.
This session is for both players looking to increase their knowledge and referees committed to elevating the game. Attendees will come away with new knowledge and practical tips to apply it in their next game.
How to Watch Film: End of Game Decisions
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5
Being a great referee comes down to watching film and applying what you learn. But analyzing footage without knowing what to look for can waste a lot of time and create bad habits.
Join NBA Finals referee James “Gucci” Williams and NBA VP Head of Replay Kane Fitzgerald as they break down film with pro-level detail. With a spotlight on end of game situations, we will examine core mechanics and principles.
This session will grow your referee knowledge and expand your ability to study film yourself.
Physical Recovery for Referees
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12
Officiating is hard on your body; you wake up with sore muscles just to get yourself ready to do it all over again. But maintaining an effective recovery plan that's easy to incorporate into your busy daily schedule is even harder.
In this session, referee fitness expert Austin Ardrey explores 3 things you already do that can be easily improved to promote better physical recovery. With additional guidance from NBA Finals Referee James "Gucci" Williams, they'll discuss how to perform the job, refuel and exercise in a way keeps you feeling ready for the next game.
Attendees will come away armed with the tools needed to design and adapt their own recovery plan.
